Apartment makeover: part 2

Part two in an ongoing re-design of the apartment. Today: after shots of my one-woman paint excursion. It was slightly terrifying to paint the higher bits using our rickety ladder. But it looks nice in the end.
and after!
I really do need to start buying furniture.

Geektastic Thursday: Happy Endings for all!

In just a couple of days, I've watch all of and fallen in love with this show.

The jist: a couple break up on their wedding day and their mutual friends have to deal with the fallout.
IN LOVE. It's funny, but not in a sitcom sort of way. The characters feel real. And I believe that they would all know/be friends with each other. And I love that the friends, in other shows just the quirky minor characters I always want more of, seem to be the main focus of the show.

Max, the non-stereotype gay man and Penny, the single friend, are my favorites. And they're each other's non-romantic soulmates, it's perfect. And it's set in Chicago. Win.
The only downside is that ABC aired them in all sorts of the wrong order. Luckily, I jumped on the bandwagon late and found a viewing guide via the writer's twitter, so I could watch it in the right order.
Here it is!
   1. Pilot
   2. Bo Fight (ep. 10)
   3. Barefoot Pedaler (ep. 11)
   4. Dave of the Dead (ep. 7)
   5. Quicksand Girlfriend (ep. 2)
   6. Why Can’t You Read Me (unaired)
   7. Of Mice and Jazz Kwon Do (ep. 6)
   8. Mein Coming Out (ep. 4)
   9. Your Couples, Friends, and Neighbors (ep. 3)
  10. You’ve Got Male (ep. 9)
  11. The Girl with the David Tattoo (ep. 8)
  12. Like Father, Like Gun (ep. 5)
  13. The Shershow Redemption (ep. 12)

Apartment makeover: part 1

In need of feeling like an adult, and to make my apartment more like a cozy home. Plus, I really just love painting.
First up: my bedroom. Just recently moved into after Ashlee and Dan moved out.
Before shots. I really need to buy furniture.

 Armed and ready!
More coming soon. Including my big back porch project.

step one: relearn everything

I've finally started back on embroidery. So I started off with a simple pattern. Also, I love ship themed...things.
I couldn't get the embroidery tool to work (funnily, it's supposed to make things simpler), so I ended up doing it by hand. Well, the most basic "by-hand" method, I guess.
 Cuteness.
I don't know what to do with it. Hang it up? Make a pouch? Cut and patch it onto something? Suggestions welcome.
And I promise to do something more complicated next week. With multiple colors!

M is for Mom

Spent the weekend at my mom's. Me and my sister got her a kindle, which she freaked over like a kid at Christmas. It was super cute.

Geektastic Thursday: Drinking in the Kitchen

So, not exactly a geeky topic, but I did try (and succeed) in making margarita cupcakes for my work's Cinco de Mayo potluck. And yes, they did have tequila baked into them and in the frosting.
Onto my adventures in baking from scratch...the pizza and hammer were just spectators.
This is my worried about baking from scratch (and vegan to boot), not having vanilla, so I should have some sangria face.
The recipe said to make homemade icing. Too much for my novice self, I just put lime juice and tequila into the unsuspecting store bought frosting. Besides, Sandra Lee taught me to take help where you can. She also makes her fair share of cocktails while cooking, so she's helpful on both counts.
Lesson learned: don't let cupcakes without butter in them cool in the pan. They will stick to the paper.
Cause I was a sad panda thinking I ruined them, I googled why it happens and just heated them slightly in the oven for a couple of minutes, then let them re-cool outside the pan. Seemed to fix the issue.

All in all: not too shabby. People liked them, so I say a job well done.
Oh! I also made hummus.
I'm so Martha Stewart today! I might make "drinking in the kitchen" a recurring thing.
