end of the line

Not really. I just wanted a somewhat dramatic title for my last post in my project to post everyday for a month.
Been thinking all day about what to post. Felt it should be something worthwhile as nice bow to tie on the whole thing.
So I decided on sharing 15 facts that I don't think I've ever posted/mentioned/etc., as seen via any social media site.

1. I have a birthmark on the back of my leg that looks like a heart.
2. I sometimes choose books based on their covers.
3. I'm half black.
4. I'm saving up so I can live in London for a year or two.
5. I had a speech impediment as a kid.
6. I sometimes tear up while watching animated movies, then try to hide it by laughing.
7. I don't like the month of October.
8. I learned to knit so I could make the Doctor Who scarf. I've yet to do it.
 9. I still sometimes struggle with minor anorexia.
10. I'm obsessed with office supplies. Post-it's are the best.
11. I rarely throw away things people give me.
12. I started to become a vegetarian by accident (unplanned).
13. I prefer parties at home/friends than going out to bars.
14. My greatest fear is ending up alone.
15. I only eat cake for the icing.

Shameless nepotism promotion

My sister, Heather, who got dibs on artistic talent and awesome hair, is designing a facebook game and needs people to test out the prototype and give her feedback via a survey.

stash busting

I've finally decided to try and work up the hat pattern I wrote a long time ago. It'll be my first original hat, well, I saw it at a store and thought "I could make that". So now I'm testing it.
Also, using some of the mass amounts of yarn Rachel gave me.
It's hard to tell from the camera photo, but it'll be light purple and brown.
Fingers crossed it goes well.

TGI Tumblr

I found this and decided I want it in my life. On a poster, a t-shirt, a mug, anything at all.
Favorite. Movie. Ever!
Also, Tumblr! I have one, cause it's oh so much fun. If you're on it, let me know, and if you want to follow me (Pocket Peanut), I should warn you that it's full of lolsy and weird things.
P.S. the title on my Tumblr is from the show Misfits, I'm not weird, I swear.

Winter, Spring, Winter again

We were doing so well with the weather. It was so nice and decent out.
Then it snowed. Then melted. And it's supposed to snow a lot tomorrow.
I'm ready for Winter to be over. Though, then it'll be too hot.
There's just no pleasing me. Unless it's Fall. I LOVE Fall.
Not quite the view from my building, but it is when I go outside and up towards Michigan a little ways.

this is a silly post

Not much happening in the middle of the week.
Worked from home. Got very little done.
Watching some TV.
And got my goggles in the mail! From the awesome Zhos World.
I'm ready for adventure now.

surfing the internet like the good ole days

We didn't have much going on today, so I spent a good amount of time searching for new sites to entertain me.
And I found two!
They're both completely random and fun to visit when you're bored (*coughatworkcough*)
They're nothing new, but I just discovered them, and am instantly in love with their random blend of pop culture, geekyness in all forms, and historical parody.
Also, finally found Hell Yes, Hipster Disney which makes me laugh.
I clearly have too much time on my hands.

Monday's are never exciting

I really need to decorate my desk. It's kinda sad looking right now.
But on the bright side, I got a bag full of yarn fromRachel. It's crazy how much she always has to spare. She still had about two garbage bags full when we left.

my library card is weeping

I haven't been reading as much so far this year as I'd like. I think it's cause I didn't set a goal for this year, so I'm taking my time.
I'm also determined to read all of the books I own that I haven't read before getting to a few that I got for Birthmas and loaning from friends. Which basically means, all the books I'm not too enthused about reading, but want to read all the same. So I'm not reading them in as long of stretches as I would a book I'm really excited about.
So I'm going to set a pretend goal. Another 50 books, or the 'let's see how many I can get through before I run out of steam'.
And to get myself excited, I've already picked out ones I've been wanting to read for a while.

Fingers crossed, I can get through the two I've been sluggishly going through for the past couple of week, so I can get back on the wagon.

objects are heavier than they appear

A short one tonight, I'm feeling a bit sluggish after the day I've had.
Two of my roommates, Ashlee and Dan are moving into their own apartment at the beginning of March (couple, in need of their own space, understandably). I went to help them clean out and start demoing their new place. It's a converted basement apartment, and there was enough stuff in it for three families to live off of. So lots of heavy lifting and throwing things away.
Also got to knock down the ceiling. Which was super fun. If a bit tiring.
I'm exhausted but I loved being useful and helping out friends.
I have bruises on top of bruises. And nice calluses and scratches, that make me feel like I can take on the world. Or at least take a shower and lay in bed watching Hulu for the rest of the evening.

tis the season for a new craft

It's not quite Spring yet, though the weather here has been suddenly fantastic that I'm starting to put away my heavier Winter wear. But I'm starting to get into my warmer weather knitting rut.
I just feel so out of place sitting around in the warmer seasons knitting scarves and crocheting blankets. It's cause I can't use them immediately when I'm finished.
So I'm taking embroidery back up. Maybe dabble in a bit of cross stitch while I'm at it. I want to be able to do things like this.
From Style Crush (Her blog/life is so awesome and precious!)

I only have a handful of designs from Sublime Stitching, but I figured I'll have to start on the basics and work my way up to the more intense designs. I just want to make cute things and put them all over the apartment.

TMNT Thursday

Probably should preface this so it doesn't sound completely random.
In our job training, they came up with a new sensei program where we report to someone to check on our work. They named them after Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters (mine was Donatello).
So to celebrate when we complete training, we had to dress like our favorite turtle. There was a tiny ceremony where our sensei's presented our masks to us.
It was actually kinda sweet.
My fellow trainee's.

Mid. week thingamajig

So I've been feeling a bit blah about work. I don't think I'm adjusting or fitting in as well as I'd like to. It doesn't help that I sit facing way from everyone and am the epitome of socially awkward.
So I thought I'd start decorating my "desk" so maybe I won't feel so new (and as if every day could be my last).
Silly me, forgot that the Hallmark store is geared towards only celebratory themed knickknacks and frames. And I'm not getting married or graduating, so I was fresh out of luck.
But in searching for something at least slightly silly I came across this.
If only it were in the form of post-its or a mouse pad or something office related, it would have been mine.

Steampunk: it's kinda like that

For the second day of Capricon, we dressed in some Steampunk gear.
It was glorious.
And our friend Cuki took awesome photos of us.
Susan as the hero of our made up crew.
Cheryl, the muscle.
Me, the pilot (guess what's not real in these photos).
And Ashlee, the professor/scientist.
Yeah. It was pretty much the greatest.
And if you want to look at more of Cuki's awesome work, he has a fancy DeviantArt page you should check out.

Oh look! A holiday!

all photos via a Tumblr search. Cause that's how I roll.
Happy Valentine's Day! My date tonight will be some quality time with my TV. Also, another year, and still no gummy version of those candy hearts. Sad face.

Lazy Sunday

I know I'm posting more videos than usual lately. But I had to share this.

Also, it's suddenly spring in Chicago. And by spring, I mean it's a sunny 40 degrees. I hope it stays like this all week. And beyond.

Capricon

Cheryl in her fantastic steampunk getup, and the greatest game I wish I owned.
I hope I find more pictures from the con, cause it was awesome.
The things I get up to sometimes. I don't even know.

Weekend plans

Pretty excited. And a bit nervous. I don't go to cons, well, I've been to two, and I'm never sure what to do with myself. Or others.
Also the X-Men trailer came out. Looks so much better than I expected. I blame the lovely James McAvoy. Also, new Rochester is in it. So that's cool.

Trekkie Thursday

Cause I stumbled across this and want to share with everyone.

late to the bandwaggon

Everyone I know has been pissing themselves with excitement (sorry for the analogy) over Mumford and Sons and I'm just now really getting into them.
Yeah, I know. Dropping the ball with pop culture. For shame.
But don't worry, I'm making up for it by incessantly listening to them on repeat.

I want to perform from the floor. Looks comfortable.

the week of crappy camera photos rolls on

I've finally started doing things on my list for the year. This is one of them.
If it gets posted, I promise to share.

Monday, February 7, 2011

winter winds

Sorry for the crappy photos. I work with what I have. Which is a camera phone.
So it snowed again. Cause, you know, we were running low on it.
Also people are starting to save spots with furniture.
From what I've heard from friends not from here, this doesn't happen in other cities.Stay classy Chicago.

knitting with movies

Trip was fun. I think someone took photos (my sister claimed her camera back, so I'm out of luck on that front for a while). We got back just in time for another round of snow. Not cool, Chicago. Not cool.
But anywooo! I'm considering adding a new fandom inspired knitwear to my Etsy shop, though I can't decide on one yet.
The front runner so far.
And greatly considering adding this as a custom order. Though when I make this, I'll want to keep it for myself.
And of course, there's always Harry Potter and Doctor Who. Or the Where's Waldo hat. Cause it's funny.

but I do love trailers

Have I ever said? I have a thing for trailers. Maybe it's the excitement of a new movie, or the dramatic synchronized music, or that sometimes I can see an entire movie in three minutes. Whatever it is, I sure do love trailers.
And while I don't think we need another one (I'm partial to the Toby Stevens/Ruth Wilson version, but to each their own) and Michael Fassbender is too handsome(!!) to be Rochester, my period drama loving side knows I'm going to watch this.
It does look really good though, really on par with the Gothic themes (I'm not going to bash it before I've seen it, just be momentarily put off by yet another remake).

Making up for yesterday

What I meant to post and failed to do yesterday was the beginnings of a scarf I'm knitting.
It's gonna be a color block of two colors and it's really simple cause I started it during the blizzard to distract me. Though now I don't know if I want it to be yellow and green or yellow and purple. I'm leaning towards the green today. We'll see how long that lasts.

GeekyThursday: Random BBC is Random

It's a bit late and I wasn't quite sure what topost today. So it'll be more of a geeky show and tell. Well, watch and tell is more accurate.
I've outdone myself in the amount of British shows I'm currently watching. Sorry if my grading/reviewing is completely uninteresting to anyone reading this.
Being Human (series 3)
Grade: B, not sure where they're going this season, though zombies are about to happen. So that'll be cool. Wish they'd get rid of Nina though.
Peep Show (working my way through all of it, about to start series 4)
Grade: C, it's funny, but super uncomfortable and aside from the two main guys, I want to shake everyone else.
 Primeval (series 4)
Grade: C-/D, it's just not the same without Cutter, Jenny/Claudia, Helen and Steven. I can't stand the new guy Matt and Jess needs a good slap in the face (and work appropriate shoes). Also the humor is gone, which is what made it awesome.
I just finished Miranda....
Grade: B+, I liked it so much more than I thought I would. It's sometimes a bit too cheesy and slapstick sitcom-y for my taste, but everyone in it is charming and I love them all. I really hope they get a third series.
I also just started series 5/generation 3 of Skins and series 4 of Secret Diary of a Call Girl. One ep. in on both, don't know if I'm gonna stick 'em out yet.
Wow, even I'm a bit embarrassed over all the TV I've been watching lately. I didn't even get into all the American shows I keep up with. Maybe next week.

barricaded from the snowpocalypse

I'm supposed to be working from home. But since there's really not much to do right now, I've been bumming around and waiting for the snow to at least stop coming down so I can go frolic in it.
Attempted to stand on my front porch. Didn't go so well.
Also, the roof on our back porch leaks a little and we didn't shut the storm windows....lesson learned.

Snowpocalypse!!

When Chicago has a blizzard, we don't play around.
I was convinced I would get blown into oncoming traffic downtown on my way home today. But the good news is that my job said we could work from home tomorrow. WIN. So I'll be barricading myself inside as long as humanly possible.
I'll try and take a picture of the craziness that is the view from my apartment.
Also, I'm trying out a blog project. I'm going to attempt to post every day in February. I've been slacking and gave myself a goal. Fingers crossed I stick to it.
