Cravats and corsets....yes, please

Yes, Northanger Abbey is my favorite.

It's Miss Austen's birthday and I shall celebrate it as I do most Wednesdays....incessant BBC watching. I may even knit whilst doing so.
However will my poor nerves withstand it?
And huzzah! Little Dorrit got GG noms!
And I finished The ABC Murders(pretty awesome) and started Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris.

1 hook, 2 scarves

See? I did what I said and finished writing out the pattern. Huzzah!

Shire Scarf:
It's on Ravelry... and Etsy

Foundation: chain 200. This is for a short scarf, you can add
more or less if you want a different length scarf.

Row 1: sc into 2nd chain from hook and every other found. chain

Row 2: chain 3, make puff stitch into 4th chain from hook,
*chain 1, skip stitch, make puff stitch into next
stitch* repeat from *

Row 3: Chain 3, make puff stitch in the stitch between the
first two puff stitches from the previous round,
*chain 1, skip stitch, make puff stitch into the next
stitch* repeat from * making sure you're puffs are
between the previous rounds puffs

Row 4-6: Repeat round 3.
You can choose to make the scarf wider by repeating the 3rd
round as many times as desired.

Final round: Chain 1, sc into every stitch. break yarn and
weave in any ends.

Yellow Brick Road Scarf:
It's also on Etsy... ...soon to be on Ravelry

Row 2: Chain 4, dc into the 5th chain from hook, *chain 1,
skip stitch, dc into the next stitch*, repeat from *
Row 3 & 4: Chain 2, Hdc into the 3rd chain from hook and every stitch

Row 5-9: Repeat Rd 2-4. This will make 3 panels of dc's and 2
repeats of hdc's. You can repeat the pattern for a wider
scarf if you want, ending with row 2
Final round: Chain 1, sc into every stitch. break yarn and
weave in any ends.

Also.....I'm offering free shipping for December at my Etsy shop. I'm also going to try adding new things every week. Yes, I'm being so ambitious in December. Maybe becuase I'll be a quarter of a century old on the 22nd...who knows.

attack of the giant yarn!

My friend Cuki's wife Rachel gave me this. Why? Cause I'm that girl in the group apparently.

It's about the size of my head and extremely overwhelming to say the least. Mayhaps be a Crimmus sweater gift in the making...

books books and etsy

Firstly, thinking of joining and Etsy team. Not sure which one, but it will be happening. Oh, yes, it...hopefully...probably will. Suggestions welcome.

Book update!!
Finished Fahrenheit 491, pretty great read. It's been so long since I first meant to read it that I made up in my head what would happen in it and it was a lot different(essentially I thought it was 1984 with books and better organizational skills on the revolutionaries side). But I liked it more the way it is.
Also finished Lady Susan and The Watsons by Jane Austen. Should they count as two books or one(they're in a set along with Sandition which I'm starting soon)? Only Lady Susan is actually completed(novella). We'll see.
Just Started The ABC Murders by Agatha Christie. It's been a while Ms. Christie. Classics, banned and Christie...I feel like I'm in high school all over again.

Yes, I know, I will have those patterns and new items up so soon. I promise. No more procrastinating. Well, maybe a little, but I'm setting schedules and deadlines and all sorts of other adult-like things for myself.

Also, anyone know a good way to dye cotton shoes? I'm embarking on a non-knitting/crochet craft and don't wanna frak it up.

knitting and crocheting takes balls...true fact

I've decided I'm going to make everyone's Christmas gifts this year. Not sure how that'll work out since a few people on my list are very vague and it'll be hard to find a color they'll like let alone an entire homemade project. So we'll see how long it goes before I crack and buy things.
But just in case I crack and can't make it to the end...
I Took The Handmade Pledge! BuyHandmade.org
And I'm not completely full of non-productive-ness, I have multiple new items I'm going to list by the end of this week and will finally finish writing up my patterns.
Oh crafting, keeping me from my murdering spree since 2006.

Unrelated news: I never got to post it on the side but I read and finished Secret Diary of a Call Girl and it was a pretty great read. Not what I was I was expecting, in a good way. And finally started reading Fahrenheit 451.

Well there was a thing over at the place and I got distracted...

Remember that time I was supposed to start NaNoWriMo?
Ummm,....yeah. Haven't quite gotten to it.
Fail.

Detour from adulthood for pumpkins and costumes

I do things! Usually really nerdy things but I do them!
Super nerdy pumpkins cause we're awesome like that.

Oh! Was it Halloween? Well I guess we'll dress up and go drink and dance with some friends while two of our friend's bands performed(one entire band as priests but sadly no pictures of that) I was Link(from Zelda, not Peter Pan or Robin Hood like some people thought), my roommate Ashlee was a dead red shirt and Susan was Medora from Guitar Hero(not Punky Brewster, seriously people). Yeah, we're mega dorks.

Yes, Dan(Ashlee's boyfriend) was the Pope(after performing as a priest)

Pretty much what I wish most weekends consisted of.

fairytales, time travel....and pumpkins

Last of my "old new" things. And finally gonna start unraveling old sweaters and things for yarn and resewing old clothes. I'm pretty excited about it.

Snow White Scarf

Time Traveler Scarf
Calling it that cause it was my first attempt to crochet a vertical stripe scarf and I made it 10 feet long by accident. I blame my sister, she said I couldn't use myself as a guide for length since I'm short, so I made it longer than it really needed to be. I think the Doctor would approve though.

I'm going to a pumpkin carving party today! I know, complete non-sequitur, but I've only ever carved a, yes singular, pumpkin and it was a sort of fail pumpkin. It's BOYP. Pumpkins, knives and drinking. The makings of an awesome Sunday afternoon.

it's not technically stealing....

...if it all belongs to me.
I had to condo sit for my mom the past few days, though there's nothing there that needs "sitting" like a pet or plants or anything. But I'm taking the chance to take the rest of my things to the new apartment. Well, there's still some straggling things like books I want to sell and a coat that won't fit in my bag. But other than that, it's all mine!

Also, it makes me feel very productive. I've paid rent and credit cards and am looking for tutorials on reconstructing clothes(I need new ones but can't afford any)
Slightly stressful but otherwise a pretty successful two days.

Tiny steps towards getting my life into something resembling sanity.

There are books?!?

So I'm a little more than halfway(I think the count is up to 30) through my goal of 50 books in a year and I need more! I thought I had enough to last me since I always feel like there's a ton of books on my shelf that I haven't gotten to. But sadly I think I've lost enthusiasm for most of them....and I have a lot less of them since selling a few large man sized amounts of them to make rent...it was a sad sad day.
Putting off reading the second in the Discworld series since I know I'll want to read the rest and I can't afford to buy them.
And I still haven't learned from the horror that was Doctor Who and the Invisible Enemy that old skool DW books are kinda....well let's just say I'm glad they're only a hundred or so pages. Love the Doctor...still haven't found a good companion book.

On the waiting list:
Fahrenheit 451
Lolita
Sandition/The Watsons
The Magician's Nephew(I'm reading it last cause I don't like Eustace and everyone says this is the best one and I want to leave the series on a happy note)

Yes, I'm procrastinating...again

I have a crazy long list of things to do, including test knitting hat I need to get cracking on, but I'm posting more past projects here while checking on my Farmville thank you very much.

Yellow Brick Road Scarf(pattern coming soon-ish)

Wicked Scarf...needs no pattern since it's just a double stranded basic knitted scarf.

I went all the way to Mordor and all I got was this scarf

I made up some crocheted patterns. One more reason why I love crocheting....you can just make it up as you go along (usually). Though with this new discovery, I just might become addicted to making crocheted scarves.

Lothlorian Scarf (pattern available at Ravley!) and I'm thinking of making a shawl version too.

Shire Scarf (haven't written up the pattern yet, but will!) may make a hat too.

Three of a Kind...Hats

I made these a while back but the blog is new, so I had to share!

Let's Be Bad Guys

Tiny secret? I learned to knit so I could make geeky things from geeky shows and movies. I tried to knit years before, but...I sort of fail at directions and tried to follow knitting instructions with a crochet hook in hand....what? I was ten and kinda spacey.

My lovely roommate Ashlee understands my craziness.

An Informal Introduction

I knit. Play music. Read. And repeat. I'm essentially a perfect candidate for a Jane Austen novel.
Oh! And I really (seriously, really!) love sci-fi/Fantasy too! One day the two will meet....
